Hello Guy's,
A short article today to present you my brand new all-in-one 5" DVR : code name for this product is TE981H.
I previously already had the older version (TE968H), but many features have been updated in order to improve FPV usage.
The main feature that decided me to replace my previous DVR was the integrated sunshield which will avoid the DIY cardboard sunshield I’d been flying with.
Another great feature is the integrated 32 channels receiver. The previous DVR I had was only compatible with Fatshark frequencies (5740 to 5860) ; I can now take a look at other pilots flights.
I also realized how important it is to share a flight with LOS pilots who are not used to FPV : if you only wear you goggles, you are ‘in your world’ and giving easy access to your flight is very important to get other pilots interested and involved in FPV.
Here in France, you can fly FPV in safe fields, but you have to keep your plane in LOS area with a copilot next to you ; the copilot ensures safety for everyone by announcing takeoffs and landing during those saturday’s crowded afternoons at the field. That DVR is perfect to share your flight with your copilot, so he knows where you are while you are flying with your goggles.
For the few flights I have done until now, the improved brightness and the integrated sunshield have really improved my satisfaction. The fact that this DVR is an all-in-one product was already a major point, and this version appears to be very handy and easy to use, with no cables messing around.
Stock stick antenna, as with many other product, aren’t that good, but if you replace them with your favorite spironet antenna, performances are much better !
For the next step, I’m actually looking forward to use a patch antenna on it .. but I’ll need to search for that as there are so many types of antennas for so many uses ! helical turn, patch, wide angle antenna..etc
Hope you’ll enjoy that review, so let’s get started :
Here are the DVR (TE981H) specs :
- 5" non blue-Screen is now much brighter (about half more than TE 968H) : that makes a huge difference when flying in sunny environments
- A sunshade now comes directly with the screen ; it fits perfectly and nicely protects the screen for storage/transportation. If you don’t need it, it can be easily be taken off ; just slide it up and pull it away.
- Integrated SMA connector : you can now use the same 5.8 cloverleath antenna that you have on your Fatshark goggles
- ¼ inch (standard) Screw socket is now under the screen to attach your DVR to your RC Transmitter or tripod
- 32 channels 5.8Ghz covering all brands (Fatshark and the others)
o A band ; 5740 5760 5780 5800 5820 5840 5860 (Immersion RC/Fatshark)
o B band : 5725 5745 5765 5785 5805 5825 5854 5865
o C band : 5733 5752 5771 5790 5809 5828 5847 5866
o D band : 5705 5685 5665 5645 5885 5905 5925 5945
- You can also ask for a built in 2.4Ghz or 1.2Ghz module instead of the 5.8Ghz one
- Integrated 3200Mah Battery
- Integrated DVR (supports micro SD card up to 32Gb)
I also got a small camera with integrated 5.8 Ghz transmitter: code name for this product is TE93A
This camera allows a comparable video quality than my Mobius, but it’s ultra-low weight and size can be a nice solution for FPV parkflyers that aren’t designed for FPV : I also use it on an RC boat !
Here are the Camera (TE93A) specs :
- 5.8Ghz 25mW transmitter with built-in cloverleath antenna
- 32 channels : the same than the DVR
- 7 grams
- Supports 2S to 6S lipo batteries
Overall quality of both DVR and Camera are really nice.
I alternatively use this DVR and my Fatshark Goggles, or mainly both as it’s great to share your flight with others, and it also increases security in case of disorientation.

With my Fatshark 250mw tx + a pair of spironet antennas, you can easily reach over 1.2km..to get more range, you need to try another Rx antenna as explained in the article.
Enjoy !

Also, just wondering, what is the price? I'd be curious to see how this compares to all the other screens out there on the market
