KFPV450 Build (Part 1)

by InComing RC | October 7, 2012 | (9) Posted in Projects

Here's a new plane that I have been working on, its called the KFPV450 because it is going to have a KFm4 airfoil, will fly FPV and has a 50 inch wingspan. The design is by me, and is roughly based off of the ZII.

Here you can see the step more clearly.

The reason I don't have the two steps is because, I ran out of foam, haha!

Above you can see the cut out being compared to my FPV40. The KFPV450 has a 15 inch root cord and a 8 inch tip cord (without the control surfaces) with a 15 inch sweep. This plane s going to be massive, and awesome! Stay tuned for more updates.

Thnx. I am going to try this. Love the way a wing handles...

I am wanting to design and build a wing with EPS foam, My dimensions are Root Chord: 8 inches - Tip Chord: 4 inches - Sweep: 8 inches - Wingspan: 39 inches

Thats a pretty big wingspan for such a thin wing, you might want to try 30inches with those cords. Or make your cords a bit thicker.

He is right your chords are to small! It's really hard to make a full size airfoil since the airfoil needs some kind of S form for it to work. KFm is the easiest way to go but it's not as efficient as a full size airfoil!

I'm just planning on using 3/4" EPS - covered with packing tape. I know it's quite long-ish, but I like it that way...

Well, it's going to be very hard to control, I can tell you that right now.

Hard in what sense? I guess it'll be pitchy, but I really don't know. It's a crazy experiment that I'm making :)
Also no KFm nor airfoil, only rounded edges and elevator uptrim for reflex. And a slow 1000Kv motor.

It's definitely going to be pitchy, also you are going to have to put a ton of carbon in it so it doesn't flex, and it will have very little lift.

It won't have any carbon in it - which should make it interesting. And... who needs lift when you have 2:1 thrust ratio? :D

You will need more carnbon in the wing and make it thicker or you will just break it in mid flight and loose your money.

Because of the low lift the plane will be really unstable in slow flight and it wil have a faster stallspeed. Build something like the fpv40 from schraut5 and then make your own wing, this is not going to work.

Thats more of a reason to have carbon!

3/4 inch is to thin colorex!! It wont be stable also you will need more of an v shape in the wing for better stability and higher speed. The choice of an low KV engine is good something like an 11x6 foldable carbon fiber prop should work. Look at the fpv40 from schraut5 take his dimesions and make a wing. This wont work some fellow dutch fpv-ers made something like this and it did not flew. I got this info from an aircraft mechanic who is a friend of my father.

Foam costs $2 here - Now that I think of it, I might make a KFm step on the top, 50%. I don't care if it doesn't fly well, I just wanna try it out. I want to work with what I have - which is either a 10x4.7 GWS SF or a TGY 8x4E. None are folding, I'll just have to break them.
Maybe I'll go with WS:100 cm, RC:30cm, TC:15cm, SW:30cm.

Yes that is much better you will have more lift with this design.

Technically, it won't give me more lift. But the increased surface area will give me lower wing loading. And the increased length will give me just a bit less pitchiness.

BusyBee-

I'm interested to see how this turns out and flies. Are you going for a slow, stable platform, or something that screams? Please keep us updated with your build log and first flights!

Both! I want a fast FPV plane. I will keep you up to date for sure!
