To the FliteTest Community:

This week we have been blessed to have had the opportunity to review the latest Ares Firelands Group product called the P-51D Mustang350.  Knowing this was a step up for the students of the MESArcFF team, it was still a blast to try out this past time beauty. Below is some information about the product;

The Ares™ [air-eez] P-51D Mustang 350 is a park flyer size scale model of the venerable North American P-51D Mustang.  Our version of the classic warbird includes a variety of scale details that will make you proud to show it off to your friends, along with other practical features like main landing gear that can be installed and removed without the use of tools and a steerable tailwheel for improved ground handling.  It even includes both two-blade and four-blade propellers and matching spinners so you can choose your preference between scale looks and flight performance.

Speaking of performance, the Ares P-51D offers full 4-channel control right out of the box along with a factory installed 350 brushless motor that together combine to provide smooth, yet agile flight performance that’s perfect for both scale and aerobatic flying.  The unique airfoil design of this Mustang also allows for improved handling at lower speeds making it a great model for pilots looking for their first warbird.  Plus, the advanced EPO foam airframe is lightweight, durable and easy to repair, which comes in handy when you have an occasional rough landing.

The Ares P-51D Mustang 350 is available in both RTF (Ready-To-Fly) and RFR (Ready-For-Receiver) versions.  Both include the 350 brushless motor, a 15-amp brushless ESC and three 9-gram sub-micro servos.  The RTF also includes a standard-size 6-channel transmitter and factory-installed 6-channel receiver with 2.4GHz technology, a lightweight 600mAh 3S 11.1V LiPo battery, and a DC balancing charger with an AC adapter.  With nothing extra to buy and only minor assembly to complete, you can have the Ares P-51D flying at a local park, schoolyard or flying field in almost no time!

So whether you’re an experienced ace pilot looking for a capable scale park flyer to add to your squadron or a sport pilot who wants to experience the nostalgia of flying a classic warbird for the first time, there’s no better choice and no better value than the Ares P-51D Mustang 350!

Jake put on the prop and nose cone, it was real simple, especially when it comes with detailed picture step by step instructions.

The main wing insert was easy too, Colby attached the servo lead from the Aileron control servos to the Aileron slot of the receiver, slide the wing in and srew down with the hardware provided.

Chris was incharge of the linkages for the back stabilizers, piece of cake, attach and minor adjusting and you are set!

As beginners, we personally liked the slow flyer prop that came with the product, it allowed for a much smoother and slower flight.  We HIGHLY recommend you start off with this prop and work your way up to the 4 Blade sports prop.

RATING 4 out of 5 STARS

Overall it was beautiful plane, here is some of our pros and cons on the aircraft;

PROS:

  -Great scale look, even comes with a little pilot!

  -Real easy to put together and link up to the prebinded transmitter.

  -No additional equipment needed, everything we needed came with the product.

  -Strong construction, took some heavy beatings and held together nicely.

  -Tons of power and quite, especially when the power system is brushless.

  -Comes with additional props, hardware, and linkages.

  -Great for an Intermediate and Advanced pilot.

CONS:

  -Due to paint scheme it was hard to tell orientation.

  -NOT FOR BEGINNERS!

  -TX could have been updated, especially with what you receive with other Ares products.  Would have paid more money for its own customized controller.

  -Recommend slow fly prop first and hand launching.
