When you think of flying a drone, you don't automatically consider wearing some sort of heads-up display - but that might be about to change.
The Epson Moverio are augmented reality glasses. These things seamlessly integrate with your DJI Mavic, Air or Inspire to create a flying experience like none other. Battery information, flight path graphics, and even an FPV image can be projected onto the glass whilst you keep your gaze fixed on the drone. Essentially, you can fly line of sight and in first person view at the same time.
The Moverio BT-300FPV Smart Glasses (FPV/Drone Edition) have been designed as an aerial photography and videography tool. The company says that they aim to increase drone safety by making it possible for a pilot to see both line of sight and FPV at once.
Working with DJI, Epson has even introduced features such as a holographic flight simulator where you can pilot a virtual Mavic around the sky. All of these features are contained in a modest package including the glasses themselves and a small module that goes with your on the drone controller.

We recently got to experience the Moverio for ourselves whilst flying the DJI Mavic 2. Skip to 5.05 to hear our thoughts.

If you want to see more of what the Moverio can do, here's a look at the product and how it was created from the guys behind the glass.
What Pilot is it for?
The Epson Moverio is really for aerial photography and aerial videography. As a tool to increase your chances of flying safely whilst also feeding lots of useful heads-up information also make it a more enjoyable experience too. It's almost like the phone display graphics are floating in front of you.
Specifically, if you own a DJI drone and have some budget left to invest in an extra accessory, the Moverio will work seamlessly.
Collaborative DJI software has been designed to work with the Moverio for aerial photography. Two apps seperate are currently available that are optimized for the glasses. Over time, new features in updates will continue to enhance your experience. It's really quite exciting!
If you're just getting started with flying drones, the flight simulator feature will make training and learning easier. This will also make it easier for you to teach a friend to fly without any risk (we're all about sharing the experience here at Flite Test).
One thing we would say is this isn't a drone for racers. Specialist vision systems like the Fatshark HDO's are definitely the way to go for piloting fast quads.
At $699.00, the Moverio is a premium price product. However, if you want this unique flight experience, there's absolutely nothing else like this out there at the moment.
