BAMM! Break Away Motor Mount

Do you also hate a bend motor shaft?

Well let me introduce BAMM!

BAMM! stands for Break Away Motor Mount. This is an easy to make motormount that will save your expensive electric motor. Technically speaking you are creating weak spot in your airplane's structure, wich is still strong enough to hold your motor in place when you abuse it. But when you crash, the wall will collapse and snaps inside your airplane.

Now that we know what it is suposed to do, Its build time!

First of all get a nice firm piece of plastic. any ABS kind will do aprox 2mm to 3mm thick or 1/10 of an inch as minimum. My research have shown that actually any kind of plastic will do the trick like giftcards, creditcards. but preferably ABS because it is stiff and thats what you want it to be.

Get your piece of plastic and trace out your motor mount on it. Leave plenty of space around it.

Just like this.

As you can see i did not drill the holes in it. Instead i melted it with a hot piece of piano wire or pushrod. because i use the servo mount screws that nobody ever uses. the diameter of the hole is actually tiny compared to the screw. Just force the screws in and it will sit tight and sturdy.

Your BAMM! should look like this now.

Now its ready to go glue it on the nose or where ever you want it to be. This only works for depron equivalent materials. If yours have a paper layer on it remove it or else it wont snap properly

The idea behind is is that the material of the motor mount is stronger then the nose of your airplane. and not stronger then the shaft of your motor this will cause the wall to snap instead of bending the shaft.

Now lets see it in action.

This is the result of a nose first crash.

Now its time to see it in action with this beautiful midair wingsnap caught on camera. and ofcourse the motor shaft is still straight as an arrow.

The plane used in this article is a modified Funbat. AKA Ultra funbat. wich i have re-designed for better stall characteristic and amazing highalpha capability's. If you want the plans for it just ask for it. I also have a Antanov scratch build in the making.
