At last, we have finally made it! This is the last part of Peter's DIY Javelin Guided missile project that can be found at his Youtube channel at this link: <https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7yF9tV4xWEMZkel7q8La_w>. It has taken Peter three weeks of trial and error to get to this point. Now he has it working splendidly. In the last video of the series, Peter shows other errors he encountered, materials needed to finish the actual launcher, and the first successful flight.
In the opening of the video, Peter puts on a wacky, but funny skit to show how the launcher and UAV works. It is an excellent teaser for the rest of the video.
Peter's entire goal was to create a cool science experiment, a fun technological demonstrator without actually owning the real thing. They cost thousands of dollars and are illegal to own. Even if Peter wanted one legally he couldn't have one in his home.
"The launcher is made from PVC, plywood, foamboard, Quanum DIY FPV Goggle Set from Hobby King, FlySky Radio, and wires for ignating the rocket motors."
The finished project did not come without any challenges still. When trying to get a successful launch Peter had two failures. The first launch failure was due to an insufficient launch speed caused by intial ejection charge which didn't have sufficient power. The second failure was due to control fins failing to deploy causing the rocket to have no guidance.
The right combination of thrust from the rocket motors and the right variables and Peter was able to get everything to work. You can see from his video that it worked wonderfully in the side/backyard.
We should clarify that this project is completely safe. When people hear missile they typically will think "destruction." Peter's project, in short, is a simple three channel airplane which is launched from a couple of rocket motors. The aircraft is really too heavy to carry any sort of payload, thus would really make the flight charactersitics weird and out of sorts.
