E-Flite Convergence VTOL Overview

The E-Flite Convergence VTOL (vertical take off and landing) was fun and exciting to fly. We were impressed by several of the features it includes such as the auto level capability, the ease of transitioning from stability mode to acro mode, and of course, the fact that it takes off and lands vertically.

Our thoughts

  • Auto level makes it crazy stable.
  • The forward and backward motion keeps the aircraft flat and only changes the thrust angle of the motors in the front.
  • Banking is done through differential thrust in hover mode.
  • With the flip of a switch, you can transition from VTOL to full aircraft mode. The nose drops when you switch modes from horizon to acro, so make sure your speed is up when you transition.
  • Make sure you take your time when you switch to advanced mode.
  • It feels good to fly the Convergence. It’s very natural. Docile.
  • It works off of 2200mah 3-cell battery, which most people have and is affordable—we were able to get a decent amount of flight time off of it (approximately seven minutes or a little more).
  • The Convergence is not necessarily a beginner plane. If you can fly a 4-channel plane, you will easily be able to transition to flying the Convergence VTOL.
  • Make sure you memorize what each mode does so you’re not surprised mid-flight
  • Always transition into the wind.

Features

  • Has FPV capability.
  • Multirotor and sport plane capabilities.
  • Auto leveling.
  • Powerful brushless motor system.
  • Stability and acro modes.

I would love to see a speed-build kit for the VTOL Broncho, along with detailed instructions for programing the KK2. They would sell like crazy!

I like this concept but think having all three motors pivot for horizontal flight would be more effective. Have you guys thought about making a kit like this on a twin boom aircraft?
