What Are the Main Features?

E-Flite says that their F-16 is the easiest to Electric Ducted Fan (EDF) model the famous jet fighter there has been so far whilst making it known that they’ve gone all out for authenticity. The aircraft certainly does look the part from every angle.

Buried at the heart of the beast is an impressive sounding 12-blade 70mm fan delivers excellent top speed and vertical performance. Thanks to these numerous blades, you really get a turbine-like sound when you rev the thing up.

Installed within the EDF unit there’s a high-power 6S compatible brushless inrunner motor along with a 70-amp ESC factory installed on the inside of the airframe.

To control the surfaces at demanding speeds, fast and precise factory-installed digital, metal-geared servos with ball-link equipped linkages are used. These are a must for a plane of this power. Horizon has used the best gear for a reliable and rewarding experience, so big thumbs up there.

For taxiing on the ground (you've got to love taxiing EDFs about just like the real thing!), there’s a steerable nose wheel with electric retracts. Built into the gear legs are shock-absorbing struts which make operation from a variety of surfaces possible - including grass.

On the BNF version, you get a Spektrum 6-channel receiver. Included is the optional SAFE Select flight envelope protection (which you can toggle on or off depending on your preference) which limits your bank and pitch angles. Of course, you’ve also got in-built stabilizing AS3X technology too which creates a truly locked-in flight experience. As Josh Bixler would say, it makes it feel like your plane is ‘on rails’.

Who’s Should Buy It?

If you’re a fan of jets, the F-16, or powerful yet maneuverable EDF flight experiences - this RC airplane might be for you. It’s a fairly affordable option and you get a ton of features and a finely engineered aircraft for your money. As always, if you’re new to RC planes, you should steer away from jets as your first models. However, if you are more experienced and have a smooth field available to you (grass or paved) there’s little reason why this stunning replica of the F-16 couldn’t be a fantastic addition to your RC fleet.
