heres a flight video its short and not all of it but the person filming said it was hard to follow. but anyways with flaps deployed its glide slope was awesome
Well few of you wanted to see how I created the the Cessna I made. I dont really know how to make plans so here is some guidlines and some instructions on how I did it.
I start towards the middle of the foam board and I made the cowl come out an 1 1/4 inches and just made a rough round shape the best I could. made the nose length 4.5" long. the flap that closes the nose in is 2.5" wide with a tab on it to tab into the other side which I will wait till I get ready to mount the front nose flap on then I will fit
gure out where to notch the opposite side it in order for the tab to go in. Just makes it easier to do later than now and possibly be off.
I made the overall width of where the power pod 2.5" and set in the sides where im going to fold this makes for a good tight friction fit on the power pod.
The side panels are 3" wide for the nose of the plane.
io
where the wings attach the body is 5" and I set back the window area 2.5" back from where the nose ended. And you go back 8" from the start of the wing area because the wings are that wide.
you can see that it is a very tight friction fit which I liked because the smaller the fusealoge the less the wind will affect it.
the tab that covers the window is 2.5" by 2.5" need to add a tab so it can tab into the other side. ( remember its always better to go a little to big and have to trim later than to go to small and not be able to make it work)
This is what you end up with.
For the tail I found the center line between my 2.5" mark which would be 1 1/4" this will be the center of the tail.
And go back 9.5" from the end of the wings.
make it one inch wide this is the base of the tail section.
Made 1.5" tabs on the end.
the sides on the base of the tail section I went 1 1/4" tall on both sides and added a flap to one side to cover the tail section.
Make sure you squar up the back of your tail section all the way across you can tell I got off a little.
I am going to put a 2" tab into the sides I didnt cut the flap yet because of the slope it has it was going to be hard to judge it so that will be the last thing I do after I get the side and tail section glued together. Well now its ready to cut and put together.
Now to make the elevator I made it 13" long 5" wide marked my center line at 6.5" and marked 1.5" on each side of my center line for alignment.
I took a half inch off the ends on both sides to give it a tapered effect i will make the control surface 1.5" wide at my center line and keep it straignt all the way across. So now would be a good time to mark the control surface all the way across because of the refrence marks.
the rudder is funny shaped cause i made it go all the way through the tail section like you saw in my review of it and the slant up is following the contour of the tail. The slot in the tail section is 2" long so thats how wide the base is. the top of the rudder is 3" wide and over all I made the rudder 9" tall it looks funny drawn out but once in it looks pretty good.
Now all the peices need to be cut out consist of 4 pieces the straight strip of foam is for the tray that goes in the fuse to hold the back prongs of the swapable pod. dont forget to lay out your pod on the front of the fusealage to mark where those tabs are and cut them out so it fits properly. now its time to glue it all together and some of the measurments are little over just to be on the safe side and when you put it together you can trim them to fit.
how it should look when its put together.
I had to use a dremel to chew out some foam for the wires to fit if you routed your wires different you wont need to do it but if there on the side like mine you will have to chew out some foam.
theres the finished product I put a battery hatch on the side with a flap that closes it up so I didnt have to take the wing off everytime to put in a new battery. The wings like I said in my review are the baby blender wings just shortened width wise to 18" and then I put the two together and it turned out awesome. I am hopefully going to be able to get a flight video done 2/5/13 if the weather cooperates. Thanks for looking please rate.
