We don't get to paint most of our speed build planes. So today we decided to change that with the Kraken!
With summer weather rolling in, we thought we'd put some water guns to good use and paint the Kraken.
The Kraken is a giant foam board airplane with a wingspan of 71 inches! 186% larger than our FT Versa Wing.
We decided to use food coloring (a lot of food coloring) to the motors wouldn't get gummed up.
Equipped with a newly designed FPV pod the Kraken captures some great fly by footage!
Alex is equipped with some squirt guns and has a GoPro 3 strapped to his chest for more great footage!
The squirt guns were fun, but throwing the whole bucket of color just gets the job done faster!
In most cases, water and foamboard don't mix. But our giant flying wing held up great as it was splashed.
I posted this screen shot because I thought it was funny. :)
Alex has pretty good aim with his water guns, he hit the Kraken almost every fly by!
Who would have thought a few buckets of colored water and a giant wing could be so much fun!
We were able to get some great slow motion shooting on a GoPro 3+ Black at 120fps.
We were able to attach a standard lens to the GoPro using the Ribcage from Back Bone.
The Ribcage mod is a custom add-on for the GoPro that allows for interchangeable lenses to be attached!
With a full selection of lenses available from Back Bone along with built in tripod mounting points, the Rib cage gives you much more control of the GoPro.
With an additional C-Mount attachment you can attach standard DSLR lenses.
The Ribcage can support M12, CS-Mount or C-Mount lenses.
We got some fantastic shots from our GoPro shooting handheld! And we were able to get high-speed video from the GoPro without the typical fisheye look and the ability focus the tiny camera.
Check out www.back-bone.ca to learn more about this cool GoPro interchangeable lens mod!
Thanks again for all of your support! Stay tuned for the Kraken build!

it has a wingspan of 1/2" short of 7 feet.
its really easy! also I put a single powerpod in the center with a landing gear on each side of the center section.
just fill the wing joints with spray foam for strength and rigidity(let it cure for a week) and you have a huge compartment for electrics

Props to the cameraman and his gear. Really pro-looking shots with modest equipment. We live in a new age of wonders!
