Learning to fly - FT Nutball repeated headcrash

by soundshock | June 5, 2013 | (0) Posted in Just Fun

I had so much fun with the FT nutball today. After months of rain in northern europe, today i had the chance to improve my flying style ... Well, let´s say: there´s still a long road in front of me and in the end the wing broke off of the powerpod, however, we catched a real plane in our footage ... all electronics are working, it will need some drops of hotglue and it will be back up in the sky tomorrow.

Thank you flitetest for releasing such a wonderful "3plane-new to the hobby-entry set" ...

I had better luck with the FT Delta. With rudder and elevator planes, I keep tilting the plane too much and rudder cannot bring you back from that. As a beginner it's too easy to turn too sharp and not be able to recover. The F-22 Raptor actually looks like a great first plane. And I don't know why I haven't built one yet.

I too am having dismal results with the Nutball. I tried flying it when it was too windy, and then I thought that if I flew it with a 2s battery instead of a 3s, that it would slow things down a bit. But I didn't change the prop to match the battery and ended up with it being under powered.
I'm determined to find the right combination so that I can at least get one successful flight from the damn thing before I trash it completely.
In the meantime, I've built an FT Flyer and I'll probably take it out this weekend.

Sorry to tell you those results are NOT dismal. That is just learning mode. I chose to learn the same way on my Nutball. I just kept crashing and patching and building until I learned how to fly better. I had FUN all the way. If I wanted easy I would have bought a RTF indoor micro. You are correct however in that the FT Flyer is much easier to fly. I just built the FT-22 and hope I don't crash it quite so much,

To be honest The nutball isn't a good first plane! it is unstable and people do crash a lot with them in return give up the hobby due to failed flight attempts. you can NOT got wrong with the FT Flyer!! I cant stress how easy and fun it is. give it a go with that and post a video. just make sure you Cg is right this video your throws look way too high and tail heavy. happy flying

He did just fine.. He just fooled you, with his propeller first type landings..

You cant fly that bad if you didn't hung it up in one of those long fingered plane snaching trees..

I definitely agree the flyer is easier. But with the nut ball if you use a 3s and get your CG write fly it faster and higher in a bigger field and you'll have better luck.

You all are perfectly right, in the meantime i maidened the FT Flyer and the Delta aswell and they are much easier to handle. Dialing in some expo also did the trick. Thanks for the input.
