The day the bird died!
All honesty, I have crashed my friend's plane at least three times for several different reasons, and the latest just shows what magic you can pull off in a weekend!
I have been extremely impressed with this plane, it flies well and take a hit well. Over the years it has been crashed for various reasons. However, every time the plane goes back together very well and flies just as well. Join us as we go through the pain this plane has felt over the years.
Step one of repairing is identifying the issues. We have the nose that is broken off, couple torn sports and some torn off engines. Looking further at the wing, we notice that was a new crack at the wing tip which is around where we installed a carbon fiber span in the past. At the root of the wing, there another break. What should be noted, is taking your time and check your CRAP. Making sure nothing is loose that should be loose and no tears at your control surface. A torn control surface can tear off in flight.
With three guys on the job, we repaired this plane in under two hours. That is for two good reasons, she is wasn't that bad off and she stands up to her the real B-17 history. Those planes would come back from a bomber run with blow engines, missing rudders and such and got their crew back home safely. This is an incredible plane with an astonishing story. We put the plane up later in the week, and she flew great. I am glad to see this plane flying well again and dropping stuff out of the sky! Until next time, keep flying.
