LOST Model Found From 2 Years Ago!!!

Here's a story which will live on in my memory for many years to come!:

For those of you who have been a 3Flite subscriber for a while, you will have seen us in summer 2012 with a model which got us very excited, from Blade, the 130x...

Well unfortunately whilst flying briefly after this video was filmed I decided to push the limits of this model, going way past my flying ability level, and I ditched it into the wheat field which was around 5 weeks from being harvested. The model went tail in to the wheat which was almost 4 foot high and as you can see in the photo above almost covered one of our 5 foot cameramen. I was devastated as my model, which  I'd spent £180 on, so distraught that I spent almost 3 whole days tracking the field forwards and backwards, I had 10 people one day trying to find the model and even went to the lengths of hiring metal detectors and a hexacopter to hover over the field so I could look between the wheat.

But after all this time I still could not find my beloved 130x, even after going back weeks after just to check again, but after all this time and effort I simply had to let it go and get another model...

RIP, was what I thought after the farmer harvested his crops, then ploughed his field I watched on helplessly as I knew it would have been churned up by the humongous blades..

After a winter which had the most snow in local history and some of the worst gails and rain storms another summer came ''2013'' and I refused to EVER fly in the field with the guys even though I could see them all getting more tallented and skillful, knowing that we all had enough experience to fly in any field, however we stuck to a different field trying to stay well away of the ''Forbidden Flying Field''.

Summer 2013 saw the farmer plant more wheat as you can see in this photo behind the guys.

After this was harvested and ploughed then re-seeded the lost 130x still sat in the back of my mind!

Then came 2014 and there was huge floods on the field just after the farmer had sown the field, which led to the soil splitting and crops being washed away in areas.

...But on the 18th of April 2014 the weather was in perfect conditions for flying so myself and the guys decided to get out the planes and run through a few LiPo's. By complete fluke everyone of the fields which we usually fly in had been blocked off because the farmer had just sprayed them! So we were left with no other choice than to fly in the ''Forbidden Flying Field''! After running about 10 batteries through the models I then scouted this patch of dryed up field which I thought would be a cool place to stand and fly.

Whilst walking to the spot on the tram lines to the right of the image Daniel said and I quote ''Wouldn't it be funny if the 130x was like buried in between the cracks of the field'' And I kid you not, 5 paces more and he'd spotted what looked like a yellow and blue Lipo battery JUST like the one from a 130X,  his words were ''You're not going to believe this!''. as he dived into the wheat and uncovered the dry mud from around the battery.

I rushed back and this is what I saw...

It looked like something from a past war as it lay rusted in the soil and I was simply Gob-smacked as we'd found what certainly was a needle in a haystack, even though it had taken 2 years!

As I began to write this article, one of the crew members popped round to my house and told me that he'd been in the field this morning and actually uncovered more of the model!!

So there you have it, my little 130X has been brought home! I guess it just goes to show that even when you think your model is lost it just out there waiting for you to come and find it!

Thanks for having a read of my stories guys, if you've got a model out there which you've lost, share your stories in the comments box, I'd love to hear em! Go and try and have a look for em again!

IF I should take a dirt nap, think only this of me;
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England.

I parked one of My scratch builds 65 feet up a tree in December of 2013, it is still up there. Or at least the electronics are hanging from a branch, the other bits of the airframe have blown down except for the fuselage.

Love the story. Love the documentation of the find. Sorry to hear you lost it but glad to see you got it back even if its not as pretty as the day you lost it. I lost a scratch build Versa Wing with about $100 worth of electronics on it one time so I can relate to that empty feeling. Lucky I found mine after a week. It rained that week so the plane was shot but I dried out the electronics and everything still worked! After that I bought one of those lost plane locators. I wanna say they are around $5 US at hobby king. The beeper isn't very load but loud enough. Worked well with the next plane I lost. Took about 15mins of walking through the woods to find it by following the direction of the beeps and about three hours to get it out of the tree I parked it in. It was like 9 O' Clock at night, pitch dark and me alone in the woods. Scarey, but I found the plane quickly thanks to the lost plane locator. I recommend them to anybody who flies in an area where they can lose their aircraft.

Cheers! Oh excellent! I don't suppose you could drop me a link so that I can have a look! Thanks for sharing your story, but if that was me and my model went in the woods it would of been a write off and I'd be going home! cheers

Sure! Like I said, they aren't very loud, but the sound travels surprisingly well. When I lost mine in the woods it was about 200 yards (180 meters) away and I was able to hear it; just barely but enough to point me in the right direction. Here's the link for both the UK warehouse and the International warehouse since it's currently on back order in the UK warehouse.
