On the way to the 2014 Triple Tree Aerodrome eWeek, Peter came up with a crazy idea for a team build.
With some wood, aluminum, foam and tape, and the help of a bunch of foam board builders, the Microwave plane was born.
Inspired by the World War biplane bomber, The Vickers Vimy, Peter sketched out the Microwave Plane.
The team of builders assembled and got to work building this very large scale foam board airplane.
With the help of everyone, the biplane microwave bomber came together in about 24hrs.
The best part of this challenge was to see everyone come together to make it happen!
We had a chance to fly the Microwave Plane in the noon-time demo at this years Triple Tree Aerodrome eWeek .
Our first test flights worked out to be successful! The microwave actually flew!
The airplane was a bit underpowered, Peter was still able to get the microwave in the air!
The microwave plane crashed a few times, but we were able get it back together with everyone's help!
Teamwork and spending time building really made our time at eWeek the most rewarding.
We had an amazing time with this project and had a great time meeting everyone at this years eWeek!
Though our flights at eWeek were successful, we weren't able to fly long enough to pop popcorn.
So, we beefed up the microwave plane with more motors, and a bigger power converter.
More cool airplane "B"-Roll.
We decided to launch the plane from on top the utility car!
Don't try this at home, we wouldn't recommend anyone trying this.
Keith Brown stopped in from the set of Rotor DR1 to help out with this crazy attempt to launch the biplane.
With the microwave running, the plane was in the air!
...and then, we landed it.
The microwave handled the crash well, but the team built foam board airplane not so much.
Thanks again to everyone who helped make this plane a reality at eWeek!
