Mini Quad Build: The Mini Boss

FREE PLANS: MINI BOSS

I’ve wanted to purchase a mini quad frame (QAV250, MPX230, Spanky, Kwad) but decided I’d build my own first. The frame is made out of 1/8” thick acrylic and plywood. So far it’s been successful, these mini quads feel a bit more locked in than larger size quads. Probably not the best for flying line of sight since this thing looks tiny once it gets away from you. My next step in the build is to get some fpv gear and tune it for some aerobatic flying. After a handful of flights I'm getting about 5-6 minutes of flight time. Since I'm new to fpv and I'm considering some Fatshark Teleporter V3 goggles. Any thoughts on these?

Parts List:

  • 4 -RCX 1804 2400 kv motors
  • 4 -F-12A Fire Red series SimonK-(RapidESC)
  • KK2.0 board
  • 1000 mAh Turnigy Lipo
  • 5x3 Gemfan props

It appears that it was cut with a lazier cutter.

Hey brother, great build. Would you mind sharing the plans? I just ordered all of the parts on your build, and want to cut one on my laser. I can make a plan myself, but it would be great to have a starting point. Thx for the article.

Sure what format do you need? I'll add the plans to the article as soon as possible.

I use dxf (exported from corel draw) straight to my laser, but, I could probably convert from anything you upload. I normally take the pdf from Flitetest into Corel, and move things around, and then export to DXF. Thanks again.

Oh, and I haven't tried the fat sharks you were looking at, but the flitetest crew, and I use the fatshark attitude v2 and love them. You also want to get the immersion rc 5.8ghz spiro antennas, and a 600mw tx for it.

Great work. I'm also a laser cut enthusiasts (couple of designs on this site). Nice mini man, rigidity is good? Also do you find acrylic strong enough? I found it a little brittle for these types of applications (I guess we'll wait until your first crash :)).

Yea it wasn't the best choice for the arms. That's why I switched over to wood after a few crashes but I also cut out tons of extras parts just in case :)

I've been going delrin... but I'm still not happy with flex in them. Delrin is way stronger than acrylic.
