New E-Flite Timber X (Upgraded with STOL and 3D)

Horizon has been listening to their fans and produced an upgraded model of their famous Timber - this is the Timber X.

The new E-Flite Timber X is a similar size to the original Timber but with a slightly shorter wingspan. It has far enlarged control surfaces, more power and huge bouncy tires for STOL operations. It's probably safe to say that the new Timber is a worthy successor to the popular original.

Features at a Glance

If you're in a hurry, here's what you need to know.

  • STOL and 3D capabilities
  • Standard issue SAFE Select and AS3X features included in the BNF version
  • Enlarged and oversized control surfaces with double-beveled hinge lines
  • Metal-geared servos
  • High-power 3S and 4S compatible brushless outrunner motor
  • 50-amp ESC
  • Shock-absorbing landing gear
  • Oversized tundra-style wheels
  • LED landing, navigation and strobe lights
  • Durable EPO construction
  • Optional-use leading edge slats
  • Compatible floats (not included)

What's New?

The original Timber was a fantastic flying plane. Here at Flite Test, we absolutely loved everything about it. The UMX Timber, a smaller mini version of the original, was also absolutely incredible. We put both through their paces in two seperate Flite Test videos.

So what needed to change? Horizon said that their research showed pilots wanted to have just that little more control authority and power from the larger version of the Timber. As a STOL plane, the original could certainly power up and blast off, but the roll rate was slow. This is why the X model has a shorter wingspan and larger control surfaces and flaps.

The new wing, however, does have a thicker chord than its predecessor. This means that there is actually a similar wing area in a more conveniently sized package.

Thanks to a cleverly designed center section, the older wing can be used on the X model of the Timber. Most parts are compatible meaning you can customize the Timber to your heart's desire.

How has the power been upgraded then? Well, there's a larger motor and a 50A speed controller. The entire motor/prop combo has been optimized for 4s, but you can still use a 3s (perhaps with a larger prop) for more endurance at the cost of less "punch".

Is It For You?

The new Timber would make a great second plane. If you've flown any sort of trainer or another model to learn the basics, this one with the added power and heightened maneuverability would be the perfect introduction to more advanced flying that can grow with you. To summarise, this plane has more power, more surface area, even more fun than the original. We can’t wait to get our hands on one.

I like this. Looks like a fantastic combination of flight options in 1 plane.
