Hi friends!
I am really excited to release the nnChipmunk v2 to all of you! The original nnChipmunk was my favorite plane to fly, hands down. This is a sentiment that many of you have shared with me as well over email, here on the boards, and in person. To me, it was the triumphant design that stood tall above the rest. Every time I took it to the field someone would be amazed to learn that it was made from simple dollar foam. The nnChipmunk v1 bridged the gap between "oh that's a scratch build? Yeah.. I could tell" and "Wait, you made that? That plane is cooler than my store bought!" Even though it's not my most flashy, popular, or best looking design, it is still my favorite.
What's new in v2:
HATCH
-Updated version of nnP-39 style hatch
v3 SPEEDWING
-New custom airfoil that's SLICK (no FT style 'steps')
-More streamlined version of a clark y airfoil
-All planes I release with the v3 speedwing will have the same airfoil
-Easier to build
NEW BASIC WING
-Same airfoil as v3 speedwing
-Thinner profile
-Basswood spar
-Can handle 500w of power vs 350w on normal FT style basic wing
TAIL FEATHERS
-Double layer foam
-Added airfoil
CANOPY
-Added canadian canopy (featured)
-New 'framing' technique
GENERAL
-Wing notches to fuse cleanly
-Fuse length slightly reduced to allow for kit creation
-FT power pod and new nerdnic pod compatible

FAQ
Does the build kit include a wood spar, servo horns, etc?
Yes!
Is the v2 FT swappable compatible?
It will accept a FT power pod as well as a new pod I have designed. The new pod is larger to accommodate a bigger battery.
Is this a good plane for a beginner to fly?
No. The nnChipmunk v2 is a bit too advanced for a beginner.
Can I build the basic wing without the basswood spar?
I would not suggest this. The basic wing is much more advanced than a standard Dollar Tree/FT style fold over wing. Some of these improvements create weak areas that need to be reinforced.
How come no flaps?
After testing the plane thoroughly I am confident it simply doesn't need them.
There is a plane I want nerdnic to design, what’s the best way to suggest it to you?

REVIEW
STALLS
No bad tendencies, at all. No tip stalls. No high speed stalls. Nothing
WIND
Wind performance is great. Side winds are no problem and in a light breeze the nnChipmunk v2 will hover in place.
LAUNCHING/LANDING
It takes very little effort to hand launch and landing is very floaty and graceful.
ACROBATICS
Rolls, loops, and inverted are solid. The nnChipmunk v2 is very stable upside down.
GLIDE SLOPE
Amazing. For its size and weight I wasn’t sure it would perform this well but it glides like a champ.
SLOW SPEED PERFORMANCE
¼ throttle flying is possible with the nnChimpunk v2, that’s all that needs to be said.
LOOK AND FEEL
The Chipmunk is a unique looking plane with its tail ridge and cockpit. The final product really captures the look of the DH Chipmunk.
As far as feel goes, the nnChipmunk v2 is a real treat to fly. It’s hard to sum up if a plane is ‘good’ or not by just reading a review. Sure it might have decent tendencies and characteristics, but would you enjoy flying it? Will you want to fly it? With most planes the answer is no or maybe, but with the nnChipmunk v2 I can wholeheartedly say that it’s a fun plane to fly. It handles so well and is very responsive at all times during flight. It has a huge speed envelope and appeals to a wide range of skill levels.
FINAL COMMENTS
WOW! The nnChipmunk v2 is amazing! It has a huge speed envelope, just the right amount of floatiness, is very fun to fly, and just has a great feel to it all around. It is my favorite design so far mainly because of how it performs. Everyone should build one. You, guy reading this right now, buy a kit or download the nnChipmunk v2 plans and build one, you won't regret it!
