Padded Aluminum Flight Case

Brief background: I am getting back into the hobby after a many year hiatus, so I would pretty much call myself a noob to many things RC related. My interests were re-sparked after running across some flitetest videos on youtube and quickly became addicted. I feel like I've watched nearly all of them and just wanted to give a big thank you to Josh and Josh for getting me back into the hobby.

The Flight Box: Lately I've thought how nice it would be to have some type of protective case to transport my transmitter to the field. Since investing more and more into these things I feel like it's beginning to be more important to keep them safe and secure. Just chucking them in the back seat and allowing them to slide all over the place didn't seem to be the answer. I've looked around online for some cases, but they all seem to be exorbitantly expensive, albeit most likely a much higher quality than what I've thrown together.

So, last night I ran by my local Harbor Freight and picked up an 18" X 12-3/4" X 6" Aluminum Case. It's currently on sale and with the additional HF 20% off coupon you can get it for a decent deal, ~$26. If that coupon no longer exists - just google away. I admit, it's nowhere near Pelican Case quality, but it'll do for 25 bucks. Also, I don't believe the entire thing is aluminum, it appears that just the edges are and the sides are probably plastic. It comes with a foam insert that you can modify to securly hold just about whatever you'd like. I originally bought the case for my GoPro accessories, as I was tired of just carrying them in a bag, but was pleasantly surprised that much more could fit in the case, including my Turnigy 9X! Check out below for some final product pictures.

One thing that would probably be a good mod is changing the black color of the case. It'll retain a lot more heat out in the sun being black, so I may end up spraying the sides with a lighter color in order to reflect some of those southern sun rays.

Cheers, and happy flying!

Nice case. I bought a cheap one from tower hobbies that has served me well but I like this one better. I like the tools slots on top for cords tools etc. Thanks for sharing and keep it up.

Thanks! The tool slots in the top are actually removable too for easy access as well as complete removal if you have higher profile items to store in the case.
