The 3Ch RST1 - Having tons of FPV Fun

How much Fun can you have with a FPV Head Set and a 3Ch Parkflyer Scratchbild? You can have tons of fun. In this article I want to show you the great footage we got from my designed RST1 Foamie. But I also show you the planes we used.

RST1-Design

Original RST1

Some months ago I entered the RC Flying hobby thanks to Flitetest. I was long time in RC Cars and flying seemed to be so far away and too expensive. But then I found out about Flitetest. So I builded the FT Old Fogey. The first attemps didn’t end well. Here in Switzerland we just get the Kapa Foamboard and it’s really heavy especially when you use the 5mm thick ones. And the other problem was my really weak brushed motor. The solution for me was building a different fuselage which is lighter than the original one, but keeping the wings pretty much the same. That’s how the RST1 was born.

This image shows the first prototyp, which I learned on to fly. In the meantime I updated some Parts on it. As shown in the picture I also builded the wing in a light-weight version.

I've already designed and flew diffrent planes. But recently with discovering FPV I found out that the awesome and easy flying behaviour of this plane would make it perfectly for flying FPV. I increased the power by putting a NTM 2826 1200kV Motor on a Turnigy 2200mAh battery in it. I also modified the wing since weight was no issue due to the power anymore. The wing has a servo in it for moving the camera during flite. The RST 1 looks now like this shown underneath. It is still the original fuselage just with a lot of modification and reapairing and some painting of course.

Improved RST1.2

But flying alone isn't that much fun. So I made a improved version 1.2, which came along anyway because one of my friend wanted the plans. So I builded a RST 1.2 for my brother. It looks a little bit different, but you can see it's still a RST1.

The FPV-Fun Video

So now you have seen what for planes we used. But what this article actually is about, is the footage we got from flying. Next to my house we got a soccer field. So this is where we take off. But luckily there are a lot of fun objects like trees and high fences around. After practising flying fpv we felt pretty comfortable and we're ready for the next step. So we decided to fly over our house and between trees and see what's the limit of our 25mW Immersion transmitter.

Used material

Due to legal reglementation we used 25mW Immersion Transmitter which came along with the Fatshark Predator V2 Package. But they work actually really good, so we get a good distance out of it.
For recording in the first scences of the video we used a DJI Phantom and a GoPro Hero 3. Later for the chasing footage I had a Mobius ActionCam on my plane.
I edited the video with the Magix Video Deluxe Software.

The Video

We made it with no crash for one time and it was just awesome. So enjoy the video!

Very cool, I need to get into FPV. Just don't know where to start. Like most things, I jump in head first and find I didn't need half the stuff I got. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks!I hear you LordVader! In the beginning I also bought a lot of stuff I actually didn't need! I researched plenty of forums to get my information about what I need to get into PFV and then I found out about the Fatshark Predator V2 Set. You have everything you need in it. You just plug in your voltage filter into your balance port of your flight battery and your ready to go. In this package you also get a click inch cable where you directly can hook up your goggles to a tv screen. I really can recommand this package!

Thank you! Yeah Josh dif a good thing with the old fogey wing there. It gives the plane a really good flight chracter which doesn't stall bad at all! Great to teach people how to get into to the hobby! I checked out your work you're sharing with the community! They are cool builds you made!
