The New UMX F-27 Evolution from E-Flite

Not much bigger than a paper airplane, this brushless UMX aircraft is something to get excited about. Here's some more info.

Somedays, you just want to throw a plane in the car and go flying. Other days, you might wish you had an aircraft that could strap to your backpack or, better still, fit inside it. Luckily enough, the new UMX F-27 Evolution (which is a smaller version of the bigger F-27 we crashed into a gate) meets these requirements in style.

A Convenient Size

As mentioned, this plane is a smaller version of the largerF-27 Evolution. Here's the video of our experiences with that model (although it didn't end too well for the aircraft).

Due to its small size, the F-27 is also completely factory-assembled when you receive it. This means you can get the airplane out of its box, bind it to your Spektrum radio and fly.

Flight Performance

When it comes to flying the UMX F-27 Evolution, you can expect a highly energetic experience. This plane is the fastest prop-driven ultra-micro aircraft that Horizon Hobby has yet produced. However, it's not all high-octane adrenaline. If you want to, you can pop this craft up into a high alpha or cruise around somewhere in between. Put simply, the flight envelope is very wide indeed.

Key Features

As you might expect from a modern EPO constructed airframe, the F-27 is very durable. It's lightweight, meaning that there isn't much mass to crumple foam on an impact. There's also a rubber nose cone that helps in the unfortunate event of a collision.

What makes this aircraft really quite impressive is the inclusion of Horizon's state-of-the-art tech in an airframe this small. The UMX F-27 Evolution carries the flagship SAFE Select system which means that many more pilots, of differing skills and abilities, can fly without a problem. This system can be turned off, too, if you want to really throw the aircraft around the sky. There's also AS3X onboard. This gives the plane a very locked-in feel to mimic the presence of a larger aircraft.
