Small drones are a hot topic right now. They often provide a unique experience exploring your own home and bouncing off the walls. Selecting the right one, however, can be a little tricky due to the vast number of products out there. Here are five of the best with a brief explanation of what's special about each's style so you can pick the ideal quad that suits you.
The Ryze Tello was released recently as a collaboration between the drone giant DJI and a smaller company called Ryze. This essentially means that you have a mini-drone that includes tech normally seen in aircraft like the Mavic Pro and DJI Spark. For anyone wanting to get into aerial videography, this is a great choice to see if you like the feel of piloting a flying camera. For $99, this drone feels way more expensive than you may expect. It isn't a Mavic or Spark, but it is born of the same DNA. You can read my in-depth review of the Tello here!
If you like going fast, being manoeuvrable and doing all of that in the first person, maybe you should check out our very own Flite Test Gremlin mini quad. It's a customisable, affordable micro quad that is perfect for racing and freestyle. It's light enough to take a hit and small enough to fly indoors on a 2s battery. You can also upgrade it to have a way more agressive performance. The Gremlin is a perfect option for people who like FPV, building and modifying quads and generally having a lot of fun whizzing around. You can check out our full video on the Gremlin here. This micro 110 is a little like a bigger quad in a smaller package. That is to say, the Alpha 110 feels more like a larger race quad. It's almost a development from the Nano QX which was very popular a few years ago but started as a simple line of sight quadcopter. This drone, however, includes an FPV camera and transmitter which means you can blast it around your house whilst piloting from your FPV goggles. It's a solid sporty option for $109. If you're completely new to quadcopters, the Inductrix is a fantastic introduction (hence the name) to flying drones. These quads are highly rated as multi rotor trainers. You can pick up an RTF (ready to fly) version of the Inductrix from our store that will teach you to fly very quickly. It's as simple as that! The quad is very durable and is a lot of fun to fly line-of-sight.
Tiny Whoop
If you're into the FPV scene, you'll probably have heard of the Tiny Whoop: it's taken the quad world by storm. Essentially an evolution of the inductrix, the Whoop combines a tiny form factor and micro FPV cam to produce a drone capable of some seriously impressive fun flying. It has become so popular over the last year that the concept of the Whoop has amassed a huge fan following. Here's the official Tiny Whoop youtube channel.
