Banshee and Siren 600mm micro racers

The banshee and Siren 600mm micro racers.

A couple of weeks ago I started looking at dollar tree foam differently when i noticed that some of my smaller planes only had a very thin airfoil on them , and wanting something simple to build and fast that would work on  a 3s 500mah Lipo and basic 4-9grm servos and 19gm 2500kv motor from another project , I decided on a 600 mm v-tail micro pylon racer for yank and bank shennaigans at the park as well as a fun sports plane for the adreniline junkie in us all .

The Banshee was intended initially to be the test platform for the project as I wanted to have a basic looking airframe to test the capabilities of the model before moving onto a low wing variant called the siren.

so a basic box fuselege was drawn up out of balsa to test the concept and the v-tail and other measurements were based off 1/3rd of the chord and cut into a kit .

After sanding the wing to profile by removing paper at the two angles a 5,5mm carbon spar was glued into the middle for superior rigitity and lightness.

The v-tail was made from 3mm balsa and sanded to shape at an angle of 120 degrees.

Then the fuse formers and balsa bearers and servo floor for the 9 gram servos.

Then sheeted with the good stuff AAA qaulity 1.5mm balsa from front to rear { pushrods added for elevator , also note Y configuration unless built as traditional type }.

Then sanded to shape and the right holes added for cooling , a dremel makes handy of the balsa when needed.

6mm  Dollar tree foam added to sides for cowling and sanded  and motor installed.

19gm 2500kv motor and electronics  , 2x 9g servo added. " Elevator/Aileron "

Finished banshee { note 9g sevo in top  Of wing }  changed in final to 2x 4gm in plans for better throws/easier setupin later design.

The Siren

After I decided to build a full foam version I designed the Siren , the wings have a sweep in them and the body is more asthetic and hopefully aerodynamic than the basic banshee design , I also liked the hitec weekender sceme so much that I copied it onto this I then changed the 9 gram  single wing servo for 2x turnigy 4,4  grams in the wing for a more direct connection and these work great , the tail is also from 6mmm dollar tree foam , and I added some landing skids under the wing for added protection.

Very soon I will be starting to provide the Banshee and Siren as a kits { and plans will be availiable for $8 Aud posted anywhere in the world soon }

as for flying both models were flown on a moderately windy day and to my surprise { they are fast } and go where you point them with the sirengoing vertical and making cool noises going past us and I cant wait for a calm day to really get them moving. , we could have got some video , but we have yet to get a nice fpv hat cam setup " but thats another article " Im going to attempt for those that wish to record better flying videos when I get the time.
