Delfer version 3

by 81zapper | April 12, 2015 | (8) Posted in Projects

This is a new version of my previous scratch built the Delfer. The overall wing area is smaller and gives it a nice quicker reaction with the ailerons. I wanted to build a plane that was simple to build for a beginner like my self and that was small enough to fly in a small school play ground. This version has a 7.5 prop but I think it needs to be changed to get more bite. I t currently flys real nice and slow if needed. Loops are a bit of a challange as it needs more prop. It only took me about four hours to build from printing plans to flight ready. The video is the maiden. The plane is a little touchy on aileron rolls as it was on high throws unknown to me at the time  .

Here are the plans  all laid out and taped ready for transfer

All the parts are now cut out ready for assembly

Tail assemby complete. (Same assembly as the FT flyer)

All ready , now for the electronics

Servo installation and battery location

All done   Ready for maiden

heres a closer view of the elevator and rudder connections

The plans are in CAD  format  There should be free software out there to change it to pdf

DXF file format

PDF Delfer 3 tiled

Specs. for this plan are as follows

Motor  24 gram blue wonder  1300kv

600 mah battery

7x5 prop

20 amp esc

9 gram servos

used powerpod from Flight test design

Recently finished building your Delfer and got it in the air this evening. It is doing great and I am enjoying it. It took a little while to get trimmed out of course, but once it was dialed in; it pretty much flies on rails. I'm using a 3 cell battery and fly it mostly wide open. I don't think this one was designed with slow in mind. Nice easy fun design and build. Thanks for posting your plans.

Had so much fun with it, just had to make one more flight before dark Zapper. Think I have almost an hour of flight time on it already? I also posted several photos of it in the forums under swappables and other FT designs for you to see. Sharing this stuff makes it so much fun. Just so you know, your design is flying over Kansas.
