Check out this awesome, highly-scale Messerschmitt BF-109 F build using our favorite material foam board.
It’s amazing what people can come up with when given just a simple material, like foam board, and some spare time. This superb model was created by community member Fallegon who shared the entire process on the Flite Test Forum. Here are some of the highlights of that thread.

The concept behind the project was to try and design a plane that is built with foam yet includes greater detail and more scale features than your average foam model.
Fallegon used quite a few 3D printed details on this build. They certainly inject a lot of character into the model.
He also experimented with a homemade retractable undercarriage. Nice!
Fallegon explained on the forum how he had shrunk down the real-life warbird to make a decently sized wingspan.
“This is a 10 to 1 scale model. Wingspan is 39 inches. It's not exactly to scale. I did take some liberties as I was going along. […] The body will be wrapped with poster board. It is really flimsy as of right now, but I have a model before this that I had already wrapped and it makes it so much stronger. I can grab the nose and swing it around without any problems.”
To power the warbird, a Powerpack C was used. Over time, the structure of the 109 was refined into a structurally sound and accurately scale shape using formers, connecting spars and a strong box up front.
Man, 109’s look menacing even when made from foam!
Two years since the project started, Fallegon completed his ‘generation 5’ model. Sometimes a model project like this might take several prototypes with minor and major tweaks before you get the plane to look and fly just right. It’s a similar process to how planes like the real BF-109 were designed.
With some paint applied, the ‘gen 5’ comes alive. What a great looking airplane.
This color scheme is based on the BF-109 G-2 tropical variant.
We’re all super excited to see this model in the air - according to Fallegon, it flies great! If you’re working on a project and would like to see it featured here in an official Flite Test article, shoot us an email! It’s always fun to share what you’re working on.
