About two months ago I decided to build my own high wing FPV platform plane. It took 2 prototypes to make it successful. It had a wingspan of 38 inches and length of 25 inches. It was 1.5 lbs with the battery and 2.5 lbs with FPV and the FPV battery ( I never knew before, but I used an unnecessary big battery to power the FPV).
I had the final version for about a week before a flight where I was testing out FPV range. As I turned around and flew back to the area I was flying from, I couldn't see the ground well. The sky was bright while the ground was dark. Seconds later, I lost feed and the plane was gone into to woods. I searched for hours the day after and the weekend after that weekend and never found it. I decided that it was lost forever.
A month after that I decided to build a V2 of the Eclipse. This one has a 30 inch wingspan and a length of 20 inches. It is now carrying a micro FPV camera with a pan servo well and weights at .75 lb and I'm using the same battery and motor KV from the V1. It has its first flight on a really windy day so I never felt the real flight characteristics. It will be able to carry a regular FPV set up. I plan to shorten the width of the fuselage from 2.5 inches to 1.5 or 2 inches. As you can see the front is far too wide.
I will be installing a bigger and longer ranged fpv setup soon and i have redesigned the fuselage to be smaller in width but am not going to build it until the current fuselage is banged up. Thanks for reading as this is my first article!! More projects and designs coming soon! Please comment any questions!
