I've tried many different approaches to learning to fly RC planes, and have ended up with many nosedives, and even several minor encounters with trees. But I finally ended up with this - my poor old speedster stuck on top of a local high school... Well, I was definitely going to get my plane down somehow, but the question was, "how?" By now you are probably wondering how I got it up there. I was flying it towards myself, and being a relatively new pilot, when the plane was bounced around a little by the wind, I failed to gain control over it, and I watched it majestically float right over the building and disappear...
This is my plan for retrieving my plane.
Step 1: Take my DJI Spark up and find exactly where it "landed."
Step 2: Get a ladder and find a good place to get onto the roof.
Step 3: Get the plane and chuck it off the roof to safety below.
I forgot to put a memory card in my Spark, so I just took screenshots of the screen. Once I found the plane and got a couple of pictures of it, I landed my spark, and got going on step 2, getting a ladder.
I found a ladder that was tall enough and lugged it over to the building my plane was stuck on. I then got on the building and dragged the ladder up behind me.
Once I got on top of the building, I wasted no time in getting up the layers of the building and onto the top where my little old speedster was waiting for me.
Thankfully, the plane was still in one piece and the only damage I could find was a broken propeller. I tossed it off the roof and it glided until it gently hit the ground. Step 3 is all complete. I came down the same way I went up, and then went off to get a new battery. The Old Speedster is a great plane for beginners and I have a blast every time I take it out. I hope you enjoyed this article, and I hope you never end up with a plane on a roof like I did!
