Flite Fest is a festival of flight that happens every summer. It brings people together and never fails to provide some spectacular and truly unforgettable moments. Providing the opportunity to witness amazing projects, take part in some epic RC plane combat or simply a chance to meet the FT crew for the first time, the festival offers a great deal to all that come along. Here are some of the most memorable crashes from the last four years of Flite Fest.
Fire! A delta wing smashes into the ground with a battery problem. Quick as a flash, though, help is at hand.
A moment later, the blaze is out and the spontaneous volunteer firefighters can catch their breath.
A moment of silence is had for the downed aircraft.
Not to worry though, if you were to crash at Flite Fest, there are always lots of places like the build tents where you can repair and get flying again straight away.
As mentioned, Flite Test provides some huge projects that you can take part in. One of these from Flite Fest 2015 was the huge circle plane. Here's the video of that behemoth of an RC plane and all the carnage that followed it.
The moment a huge multi-engined airplane went for a head-on collision, everyone thought the game would be over. Miraculously, the other aircaft clipped the Circle Plane's rudder, taking it clean off!
The behemoth kept flying until damage sustained from another hit took its toll.
An audible 'woomph' and a subsequent cheer signalled the end of this particular epic project.
This multi-winged plane was another that came to a destructive end.
The multi-winged plane was inspired by something like this, an early flying machine concept made famous for its collapsing wings.
RC Combat always results in a ton of collisions - it's kind of the point!
Here's a superbly executed move by a quad on a large plane that looks remarkably similar to the one that tried to take out the circle plane - karma!
Hundreds of planes in the air at one time makes this the biggest RC combat in the world!
There have been so many huge moments from the last four years that we can never cover them all! Some honourable mentions include the huge helicopter mid-air crash that happened at the very first Flite Fest.
It's safe to say that, despite the carnage and destruction that usually accompanies a festival of flight, there's a sense of fun and goodwill where everyone gets together and has a laugh.
